Habitat for Humanity
For the first time nationally, a Habitat for Humanity home has been constructed using BioBased 501, soybean-based spray-in foam insulation.
The installation of the foam comes compliments of the Kentucky Soybean Promotion Board (KSPB). In an effort to give to the community and to promote an exceptional product, KSPB is "spraying away" to help house a family in Monticello, Ky.
"We are very appreciative of the Habitat for Humanity and Quantum Foam for the teamwork shown on this activity," said George Martin, KSPB Chairman and farmer from Nebo, Ky. "Not only have we been able to serve Kentucky soybean farmers in this effort but also fellow Kentuckians."
"In early fall when the family is able to move into their completed home, they will have the ability to experience firsthand the effectiveness of the soy foam," continued Martin.
In May of 2005, approximately 40 volunteers began work on the 1192 square foot Habitat house in Monticello.
BioBased 501 goes on as a liquid and expands 100 times its volume and forms a soft, but solid barrier that does not contain loose fibers or dust that can become airborne. The composition of the product is 40 percent soy. It fills every crack and crevice in walls, around pipes and wiring which creates highly efficient thermal qualities. By filling every crack the potential for moisture entering the structure is virtually eliminated. Without this moisture the growth of mold and mildew are eliminated which in turn eliminates allergies.
Air infiltration is the number one source of indoor energy loss but Biobased 501 forms a continuous barrier against any potential air infiltration. This reduction in air infiltration has the ability to reduce utility bills 30 to 50 percent and since the insulation has no food value, it does not attract rodents or insects.
Frank Pisa, applicator with Quantum Foam Insulation, is the only dealer of BioBased 501 in Kentucky. For more information contact Quantum Foam Insulation at 606-348-4549.
