The
Kentucky Soybean Promotion
Board is honored to announce
that Benny Cooper, United
Soybean Board (USB) Director
and farmer from
Kevil
,
Ky.
, has been elected by his
peers to the USB Executive
Committee.Cooper
will chair the Competitiveness
Task Force in the upcoming
year.
In previous years,
Cooper headed up the
International Marketing
Committee on a national level.
“Cooper being elected for a
third time to the Executive
Committee is a great benefit
to
Kentucky
soybean farmers,” said Jack
Trumbo, KSPB Chairman.
“His experience in
International Marketing will
give him insight and expertise
in chairing the
Competitiveness Task Force.”
USB
formed the Competitiveness
Task Force in 2002 to identify
actions it should undertake to
address existing and emerging
issues that impact the
competitiveness of the
U.S.
soybean industry.
Globally,
demand for soybeans has been
growing faster than other
crops – more than double
that of corn. With that in
mind, the U.S. Soybean
industry continues to capture
its share of this global
growth.
“Cooper
has served as a marketer of
U.S.
soybeans all over the world.
This responsibility is
vital for
U.S.
farmers for our
competitiveness world wide and
market price,” stated
Chairman Trumbo.
USB
is made up of 64
farmer-directors who oversee
the investments of the soybean
checkoff on behalf of all
U.S.
soybean farmers. Checkoff
funds are invested in the
areas of animal utilization,
human utilization, industrial
utilization, industry
relations, market access and
supply. As stipulated in the
Soybean Promotion, Research
and Customer Information Act,
USDA’s Agricultural
Marketing Service has
oversight responsibilities for
USB and the soybean checkoff.
