KSPB Hires Program Director - Burchett to head up Kentucky Livestock Coalition and CommonGround Program

PRINCETON, KY - December 17, 2010 - The Kentucky Soybean Promotion Board (KSPB) is excited to announce new team member Brent Burchett as program director.

Burchett is a native of Murray, Ky., where his family has raised corn, soybeans, wheat and tobacco for three generations. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a bachelor's degree from the College of Agriculture and a master's degree from the Martin School for Public Policy & Administration.

"The Soybean Promotion Board's leadership on animal agriculture in 2010 was a significant success for Kentucky farmers," Burchett said. "I'm anxious to meet with our Livestock Coalition partners around the state and get to work."

Most recently, Burchett worked on local government policy at the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council. Earlier experiences include communications support at Ashland Inc., the offices of Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson and U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell and service on the Republican Party of Kentucky State Executive Committee.

He also managed political campaigns in Central Kentucky for state representative and city council.

"Brent will be bringing a great deal of experience, new ideas and skills to our team," said KSPB Executive Director Debbie Ellis. "We are looking forward to starting a new year with more devotion to our animal agriculture initiatives."

Program director duties will include heading up the newly formed Kentucky Livestock Coalition and consumer partnership program CommonGround.  Burchett will begin in his new position in mid-January.

The KSPB is made up of 11 appointed farmer-leaders who oversee the investments of the soybean checkoff on behalf of all Kentucky soybean farmers.  Checkoff funds are invested in the areas of animal utilization, new uses, domestic marketing, international marketing, research and industry supply.
