From the Desk of Debbie Ellis,

The Kentucky Soybean
Association is challenging
producers to proactively
support and protect the number
one customer of our
soybeans...Kentucky's Animal
Agriculture. Our
customers are under attack,
making this priority a
challenge.
As an epidemic of anti-pet,
anti-farmer, anti-animal use
legislation sweeps our nation,
I'd like to give Kentucky a
heads-up. Raised on a
west Kentucky farm, I used to
be amused at the fact that
most American consumers seem
to think that the eggs, milk,
meat and cheese they need to
feed their families just
miraculously appear in the
grocery store. There's
nothing funny about this
ignorance any more. Now
it's just scary.
The deceptively-named
Humane Society of the United
States (HSUS) and People for
the Ethical Treatment of
Animals (PETA) are leading the
charge to rob us of our
constitutional rights and
eliminate American
farmers. The vegan-led
"animal rights" (AR)
movement exploits their naiveté
in their agenda to eliminate
our access to local, safe,
affordable food.
They've already convinced
California voters to eliminate
nearly their entire egg
industry (according to the UC
Davis study which explored the
economic outcome of
Proposition 2), by voting to
pass Proposition 2. This
HSUS-sponsored ballot
initiative abolished the
housing systems which egg
farmers used to keep chickens
healthy, happy and safe from
predators and Avian Bird Flu,
and keep their eggs safe from
salmonella. And now HSUS
has declared that they are
taking this
"victory" to other
states throughout the nation.
This "victory"
entailed wiping out the family
farmers and workers who
supplied 6% of California's
table eggs and 12% of the
nation's eggs. American
farmers working hard to put
cheap, safe, nutritious,
great-tasting food on our
tables - wiped out by a group
of vegans who think they have
the right to control our food
sources.
What can Kentucky do about
this? Avoid the same
mistake. Don't ever
contribute money to HSUS/PETA
or any animal rights
group. If you want to
help animals, contribute
directly to your local
shelter. Tell your
legislators to oppose
AR-sponsored bills and
resolutions. Vote
against HSUS-sponsored ballot
initiatives in the future.
Tell your friends and
neighbors.
Keep up-to-date on who the
leading activists and
anti-livestock groups are and
stay abreast of their
agendas. And finally,
let's unite with one voice to
educate the public about the
facts and the vital role
Kentucky's livestock and
poultry producers play in
providing safe and abundant
food for our state and the
rest of the world.

This goal of supporting and
protecting our food supply is
difficult and challenging;
however, it is obtainable with
your help - the Kentucky
